Daniel has sold more homes in Westgate than anyone in the last decade. He knows which streets catch the evening light.
Both neighborhoods have outstanding primary schools, but they feel very different to live in. Westgate gives you space and gardens. Old Town gives you character and a five minute walk to everything.
Space
In Westgate, most Victorian family homes have four bedrooms and a deep back garden. The same budget in Old Town buys a narrower Georgian terrace with a courtyard, often with a home office squeezed into the attic.
Schools
Westgate Primary and St Anne's are both rated outstanding and within walking distance of most Westgate streets. In Old Town, St Mary's in the cathedral close is smaller and fills quickly, so check the catchment before you offer.
Getting around
From Westgate the train reaches Central in twelve minutes. From Old Town you walk there in five, and few families keep a car at all, which is just as well, because parking is scarce.
Westgate is where you settle. Old Town is where you never need to drive.
Our view
If you have two children and a dog, look at Westgate first. If you want to walk to work, school and dinner, Old Town will suit you better, as long as you are happy with less space.
